vesperae.author.educationPeter d’Ailly is a particularly well-known figure of the intellectual Middle Ages, not only for his academic accomplishments, but also for his political activity inside the university and the ecclesiastical system. He studied at the University of Paris, where he read the Sentences in 1376-1377 and was promoted to doctor in theology in 1381; he continued to serve the university in various roles, including as its defendant in two famous cases, John Blanchard and John of Montesono
