vesperae.author.educationJohn Monmouth’s709 biography is laden with ecclesiastical offices and missions. Very little is known of his academic years at Oxford, apart from the fact that he responded in a disputation of Wilhelm Leominster around 1288-1289, and that Robert Winchelsea, who was probably his master, presided at his vesperies around 1289-1290. His inception date is confirmed by the fact that he is regent master in 1290 when he is elected chancellor of the University, a position he held for a year.
